Drunk tip-truck driver kills resident
TONGAAT – Members of Reaction Unit South Africa arrested a drunk Zimbabwean National after he overturned a tip-truck and killed one person in Emona yesterday afternoon.
A second occupant of the home was expedited to hospital privately. The 52 year old drunken male was transporting building sand from Emona to Tongaat when he overturned the white Powerstar truck onto an informal home.
The truck came to rest on the deceased. A passenger in the vehicle informed Reaction Officers that the driver offered him a lift to Tongaat. Empty alcohol bottles were recovered in the vehicle.
Reaction Officers, Paramedics from IPSS Medical Rescue & the community removed the sand and exposed the deceased’s body. His head remains trapped under the vehicle. Attempts to remove his body were underway at 19:52. A large crowd gathered at the scene and threatened to assault the driver. The intoxicated driver was handed over to the South African Police Service.
