Dept. of Tourism brings domestic tourism campaign to Madibeng

HARTBEESPOORT – On Friday, 8 December 2023, the Department of Tourism met with local senior citizens from Madibeng at Villa Paradiso in Hartbeespoort as part of their Domestic Tourism Campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to educate locals about the importance and relevance of domestic tourism.

Retired people and the elderly are some of the target groups for the campaign. The delegates were informed of the tourist attractions in their own back yard and they were encouraged to partake in gastronomy tourism (food and beverage) when planning their group events. Many tourist places have discounts for senior citizens. Tourism safety was also discussed.

Madibeng Local Municipality’s MMC Bopape welcomed the campaign which comes as Hartbeepoort just celebrated the centenary of the dam, which is a major tourist attraction. She spoke of the importance of residents of Madibeng being tourists in Madibeng as a first stop before exploring the rest of the country.

The day’s program concluded with a tour of the Van Gaalen Cheese Farm, which included cheese tasting.
