Two power technicians robbed during repair works

ROODEPOORT – City Power said on Tuesday that two on-duty technicians were robbed of their valuables in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg. Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the two women were attacked on Monday.

“The work that our technicians are doing is very important to our communities because they work tirelessly to ensure that residents have access to electricity. This year alone, our technicians have been held at gunpoint and robbed of their belongings, some even hijacked or injured to the point of hospitalisations while on duty serving the communities of Johannesburg,” he said.

Mangena reiterated that the utility would not hesitate to pull out technicians from areas which they consider to be unsafe. “It is unfair and outrageous that our employees must constantly look over their shoulders when on duty out of fear of being attacked by criminals. Such incidents will not enable us to attend to outages, and we won’t hesitate to pull out our teams if their safety is compromised.” he said. Mangena also warned that the robberies may affect their response times when attending to outages.
