Pedestrian killed after being struck by bakkie, R102

VERULAM – A pedestrian was killed after he was struck by a grey Ford Bantam bakkie on the R102 between Verulam & Canelands on Monday morning. Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene at approximately 10h48. On arrival, the deceased was located between the north & south bound lanes.

He sustained severe head trauma and was pronounced deceased. According to the driver, the pedestrian suddenly attempted to run across the road giving him little time to react. The driver was not injured.
