Attempted break-in suspects arrested

VERULAM – Two men were apprehended by Reaction Officers after they fled from a property they attempted to gain entry into in Coniston on Friday afternoon.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance at approximately 12:14 after two (2) suspects fled into a sugar cane plantation at the rear of the business property when employees on the premises spotted them in the yard. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and surrounded the area.

A co-ordinated search was conducted and one (1) suspect was apprehended behind a bamboo plantation. He identified himself as a car guard and produced a marked vest (picture 7). The complainant arrived on scene and positively identified the 32 year old male as one of the perpetrators seen on the property.

Reaction Officers continued searching and apprehended the second suspect approximately 500 metres away. Both men informed Officers that they were drug addicts. The owner of the property experienced theft to the value of R60 000 on Monday this week. Both suspects had returned with intention to steal valuables from the premises when they were apprehended. One suspect was injured during the arrest.

Eleven (11) Car Guards operating in the Verulam CBD have been arrested for criminal activities in recent months.
