Taxi conductor shot and vehicle torched
NTOMBE – A Taxi Conductor was shot and a mini bus taxi set alight yesterday afternoon. Reaction Unit South Africa received a call for assistance, after a Toyota Hiace taxi was set alight during a shooting incident. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival discovered the vehicle engulfed in flames. Reaction Officers interviewed the driver who explained that he was transporting passengers to Ntombe when two occupants in the vehicle produced firearms. One of the gunmen assaulted the driver and an altercation broke out between the second suspect and the conductor. The suspect fired a single shot which struck the male in the body. The victim fled and sought refuge at a nearby residence. The suspects thereafter doused the mini bus with fuel and set it alight before they fled on foot in an unknown direction. The injured conductor returned to the scene and was expedited to hospital privately.
