Pensioners robbed in overturned vehicle, R102

CANELANDS – Two pensioners were targeted by thieves while trapped in an overturned vehicle on the north bound lane of the R102 between Canelands and Verulamyesterday. Passing motorists contacted reaction officers, requesting assistance at the scene. Reaction Officers & RUSA Medics were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene at 14h16. Paramedics from the Provincial Ambulance Service were in attendance and assisting the driver and passenger of the overturned vehicle. The 54 year old woman informed Reaction Officers that pedestrians stole items from the vehicle while she and the 76-year-old driver were trapped in the wreckage. One person grabbed her bag, but she to wrestled it from him. The thieves fled prior to arrival of Reaction Officers. A blue Toyota Etios with front end damages was located approximately 50 meters away. According to the driver, his car experienced mechanical failure shortly after conducting suspension repairs and wheel alignment. He further explained that the vehicle violently swerved into the blue Mercedes Benz causing it to overturn. The occupants of both vehicles sustained minor injuries.
