He regained consciousness shortly thereafter and initially informed Officers that he was attacked for no reason. During further questioning, he stated that he was seated on the side of the road when a female walked past him. He became aroused and decided to rape her. He dragged her into a bush and was attempting to rape her when members of the community responded to her plea for assistance. The crowd entered the bush and began beating him with sticks before they dragged him onto the road and bludgeoned him with boulders. The mob broke beer bottles and stabbed him multiple times before leaving him for dead. A passerby stopped at the scene and confirmed that the man had attempted to rape a Malawian national woman who was returning from her place of employment.
