Vehicle stoned, gutted by fire

VERULAM – A Renault Kwid that was stoned was gutted in a fire on Pinewood Road. A member of RUSA was on patrol in the area when he discovered the vehicle engulfed in flames. The driver of the vehicle fled and sought refuge at a nearby shopping centre. He returned to the scene after being informed that authorities were in attendance.

According to the man, he was travelling on an unpaved road when a rock struck his windscreen. He veered off the road and crashed into an embankment. The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was not injured. It could not be immediately established if the vehicle burst into flames from the accident or if it was set alight by arsonists.
