Pilot’s first successful solo flight

Emerson Aviation – Congratulations to Joey Marra on his First Solo Flight! We probably need to explain his shirt. Some of you know the tradition, some maybe not.
“Back in the day,” Flight Instructors and students trained in tandem seat aircraft. The student sat up front and instructor in back. there were no radios, so the instructor would tug on the student’s shirt tail to get their attention. Upon solo, the shirt tail was cut off because the instructor didn’t need to tug on it anymore! Emerson Aviation keeps up the tradition.
Joey had a large picture on the back of his shirt. So we cut off the front. we cut enough off so that they can write their name, date, and N-number on it and we hang it on Emerson Aviation Pilot’s wall. They get it back when they complete their training as a souvenir.
