Illegal mining multi-stakeholder intervention launched
GAUTENG – The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng is leading a multi-stakeholder delegation on walkabouts at Johannesburg illegal mining sites to conduct reconnaissance. The team comprises of among others members from the SAPS Specialised Units, officers from South African National Defence Force, officials from Department of Minerals, Resources and Energy.
This is in an effort to familiarise the whole team with the setup of #IllegalMining sites for the implementation of the multidisciplinary plan to eradicate illegal mining. The other Districts affected by illegal mining, Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng and West Rand, will conduct the same exercise with relevant stakeholders again today.
Earlier members from Johannesburg Metro Police conducting crime prevention patrols in Roodepoort arrested 12 illegal miners. The operations to combat illegal mining in Gauteng are intensified and expanded to cover all the affected Districts.
