Vehicle crashes through fence due to brake failure

VERULAM – Five occupants of a blue Fiat Panda fled after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a fence on Buffels Drive in Redcliffe. The public contacted RUSA after they witnessed five (5) people exiting the extensively damaged car and fleeing in different directions. One caller informed the controller on duty that two individuals were fleeing in Redcliffe.
Reaction Officers were dispatched at 15:16 and intercepted the two passengers on Orchid Drive. They explained that the brakes on the vehicle failed as they were travelling downhill. The driver allegedly attempted to engage the handbrake but the vehicle continued to increase in speed. The car veered off the road and crashed into a wire fence. The two men were unable to explain why they fled. A registration check was conducted and it was confirmed that the vehicle was not sought after.
