Somalian national escapes burning business

HAZELMERE – A 38-year-old Somalian national suffered smoke inhalation while attempting to salvage valuables from a business on fire on New Glasgow Road in Hazelmere this morning. Residents contacted the RUSA Operations Centre from 09:02 after a general dealer situated inside a shipping container caught alight. According to one caller, an employee collapsed after he became overwhelmed by smoke while attempting to remove valuables from the premises.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were immediately dispatched and on arrival discovered the shipping container completely engulfed in flames. The semi conscious employee was treated for smoke inhalation on scene before being transported to hospital for further medical care. The blaze was neutralised on arrival of the Ethekwini Fire & Emergency Services. Circumstances leading up to the incident has not been confirmed.
