Miss teenager South Africa Finalist helps keep Madibeng Clean on Madela Day

ELANDSRAND – As one of her tasks as a Miss Teenager South Africa finalist, Tersia Ramakutoane, a 17-year-old high school student from Elandsrand, Brits, got her community together to do a cleaning campaign for 67 minutes on Mandela Day. Residents of Elandsrand, including members of Elandsrand Men’s Forum, Members of the Ward Committee, the PR Councillor and other community members gathered at the Elandsrand Community Hall to join her cleaning campaign.
Tersia explains that when considering what to do on Mandela Day she chose something that would bring the community together regardless of age or gender: “I wanted something that would make us work together as a community. I also wanted people to become aware of ways to serve our community and, hopefully, want to be part of something like this again. I think it should be Mandela Day every day.”
Cllr Eugene Van Der Schyff, who was part of the cleaning campaign, praised the young lady’s example, saying, “She brought us here today and we have come to show that we want to be part of this. Let’s improve what we have. Young people are part of our community and they need to do something for the community that they can look back on and be proud. My objective is to get the community to work on the basis of all for one and one for all.”
