Explosives used during CIT robbery

PHOENIX – Members of Reaction Unit South Africa was involved in a stand off at the scene of a Cash in Transit Robbery in KwaMashu. The RUSA Phoenix Operations Centre became inundated with calls after the occupants of four vehicles opened fire with high calibre rifles on a G4S cash vehicle near Bridge City Mall in KwaMashu. Some callers reported hearing an explosion.
Reaction Officers and members of the South African Police Service responded in force and on arrival discovered that explosives were used to blow up the armoured vehicle. The suspects had fled prior to the arrival of First Responders. The public were in the process of stealing money left behind by the suspects. The scene was swiftly secured. The security officers and his crew were not injured.
