Assault rifle and 7 560 rounds found on farm while ploughing potatoes
POLOKWANE – The police in Westernburg outside Polokwane are investigating a case of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions discovered underground at a farm. According to the information available at this stage it is alleged that the farm workers at Mooiklip farm in Soetdorings outside Polokwane discovered six boxes containing 7 560 of R1 rifle ammunitions and 1x rifle grenade underground while ploughing potatoes. It is reported that the farmer who is currently using the field has leased it from the owner for producing crops for a certain period.
The police sought intervention from the Bomb disposal Unit to defuse the ammunition and the grenade. The said ammunitions and a grenade will be sent to the Firearm Ballistics Unit for Forensic investigations. The police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist us to locate the origin of the ammunitions and the apprehension of the suspects responsible for these activities to the Station Commander Lt Col Pilusa on 082 728 9825 or to report to the nearest Police Station alternative report to the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111. Police investigations are underway.
