Suspect hijack ambulance after accident
MIDLANDS – EMS crews were dispatched to the N3 Lions river for a motor vehicle collision, on arrival crews found two occupants who had been involved in a collision. All two occupants were assessed and found to have no injuries, shortly after the patients had been assessed the one occupant jumped into the EMS ambulance, when confronted by the crews he pulled out a firearm pointing it at the crew who turned and dropped to the ground. The occupant then sped off Northbound towards Nottingham road. A chase ensued with breakdowns and the other ambulance which was later joined by RTI Mpofana traffic and SAPS.
The supect then collided with multiple vehicles on his spree to evade capture. He eventually came to a stop about 2 km past the Estcourt ultra city after crashing the Ambulance. The suspect was arrested on scene by RTI members from Estcourt who had been chasing him. The suspect was subsequently handed over to SAPS with a firearm and ammunition. He has been detained at Estcourt SAPS and investigations will continue. Fortunately the crews were unharmed but shaken. The Ambulance will unfortunately be put on pension sadly which will be a great loss as it was one of a few ICU Ambulances in KZN. Big thanks to RTI, Mpofana Traffic,SAPS Estcourt and Highway Patrol as well as the Saps K-9 unit N3TC, Mr Towing, Joeys towing,Mount West towing,SJ Towing, Warren and the FPA members.
