Madibeng Municipality re-launches eldery people forum

BRITS – Madibeng Local Municipality have re-launched a Forum for the elderly people in Brits. This recent initiative comes subsequent to having the forum been inactive for quite some time. The re-established forum’s sole objective is to create and cultivate a governmental platform which is levelled at dealing with matters surrounding the elderly people living in Madibeng’s locality or area of jurisdiction. Mayor Douglas Maimane expressed that, some of the issues that this forum will be tackling come from a wide range of varying dynamics such as the wellbeing of the elderly people to that of social-cohesion aspects, and the like.
“The intention behind this initiative is to re-establish the elderly people forum that would give elderly people a platform to voice their concerns or grievances and to also consult and lobby Government on issues affecting them. Furthermore this forum is resuscitated to help protect, promote, give support towards their wellbeing and to also offer security of some sort to our older people, with regards to the socio-economic aspect of things, to mention a few.” the Mayor said.
The occasion had participants coming from all the corners of Madibeng’s borders as each Ward from the 41 Wards that the Municipality has, had a representative in attendance. This gathering also ran elections of the new executive members of the forum and Benjamin Dikutle was elected as the chairperson, with Martha Boikanyo been the deputy chairperson, secretary to this forum is Phindile Mashabela and Rodney Motsepe will be assisting her as the deputy secretary while Agnes Khunou is elected as the treasurer.
