ZEERUST – The suspects, aged 32 and 37, were arrested during a Crime Intelligence driven operation by members of Zeerust and Nietverdiend Visible Policing, Zeerust Detectives and Zeerust K9 on Friday, 7 July 2023, at Kaaldam Farm outside Zeerust. That came after a follow up was made on information about two men who were in possession of firearms and suspected to be involved in the commission of burglaries in and around Zeerust.
Upon searching the suspects’ place, the police found the following items:
1 x 308 Automatic Rifle
1 x .38 Special Revolver
1 x 306/223 hunting rifle with binocular
2 x 303 hunting rifles with binoculars
4 x wooden rifles butt
1 x Fishing rod, army uniform and different types of rifles empty cartridges.
The suspects were arrested after failing to give a reasonable account for the items. They are expected to appear before the Zeerust Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 10 July 2023, on charges of illegal possession of firearms, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of suspected stolen goods. Investigation into the matter including linking the suspects with other crimes, is underway. The Provincial Commissioner applauded all members in the operation for their diligence, which led to the removal of firearms from the wrong hands.
