Driver of abandoned vehicle located after assault on residents
VERULAM – The driver of an accident damaged grey Datsun Go+ that was abandoned on the north bound lane of the R102 between Verulam & Ottawa. Dozens of motorists contacted RUSA, reporting an abandoned vehicle in the emergency lane. A Reaction Officer dispatched to investigate further established that the vehicle collided into a metal barrier. The driver could not be located. A registration check confirmed that the car was registered to a person residing in Phoenix.
Members of RUSA proceeded to the housing complex and made enquiries. It was confirmed that the owner of the vehicle moved from the complex but no forwarding address was provided. Yesterday afternoon, Reaction Officers were dispatched to Old Inanda Road in Verulam after receiving reports that a man entered a property and began assaulting residents. He stripped naked during the altercation. RUSA Members were forced to restrain him on their arrival for his and the safety of the public.
Residents were unable identify the man. Reaction Officers interviewed the male but he provided little information. He did confirm that he was the driver of the abandoned Datsun Go+. Officers made contact with his family who arrived on scene and transported him to hospital. The man is believed to have suffered a Psychotic Disorder.
