Operation ‘Shanela’ nabbs another 533 suspects for various crimes

GAUTENG – Weekly high density #OperationShanela taking pace across the province through regular stop and searches, vehicle checkpoints, high visibility patrols and the apprehension of wanted suspects, is gaining momentum with significant arrests made in hotspot district areas. In the last week Operation Shanela netted 533 suspects for serious crimes.

The intensified and integrated crime fighting efforts of members in the eight districts continue to impact with arrests made for murder, rape, damage to infrastructure, robbery, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition etc.

The OR Tambo District did exceptionally well after a total of nine illegal firearms with ammunition were confiscated, bringing a total of 17 firearms, including a rifle that were confiscated in the Province. A total of 11 firearm owners were charged for contravening the Firearms Control Act.
