Two arrested after horrific farm attack on former Springbok & Family
FREE STATE – Former South African rugby player Lukas van Biljon was stabbed repeatedly in the chest and his father shot three times and left for dead when six men attacked their farm at midnight on Saturday. Springbok hooker Van Biljon, 47, was warned if he fought back his children who were tied up would be killed as the gang ransacked the farm house at Oranjeville.
His father Andre, 70, had tried to make a desperate call to fellow farmers for help on a radio but he was spotted and was shot three times in the chest and hand. He is in a critical condition in the hospital ICU at the moment.
“At about 00:30, the police were called to a small holding at Oranjeville, where the Van Biljon family is staying. Andre Van Biljon sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and hand. His son, Lukas van Biljon, was also attacked and the perpetrators stabbed him several times with a knife.” – a police report said.
The suspects fled with a Range Rover which was recovered in Oranjeville, other suspects fled in a Toyota Camry when they saw the blue lights of the police approaching. An activation plan involving surrounding police and farmers blocked off all roads and at a roadblock at Viljoensdrift the vehicle was stopped. The vehicle was also confiscated. Two of the suspects aged 32 and 42, were arrested at a roadblock in Viljoensdrift.
