Only thing holding him back is the traction on his wheels!
GAUTENG – When AC LM Mathye was involved in a car accident in 2003, he did not let the results of the accident come between him and his love for athletics, especially because he has always been an athlete since high school. His love for athletics saw him walk away with a Sportsperson of the Year with Disability Award at this year’s National Excellence Awards held in Polokwane in January this year.
Mr. Mathye, who is stationed at the Namakgale Police Station, has been part of the SAPS family since 1 March 2011 and has never looked back since. He immediately joined the athletics team and participates in Javelin throw. He is a gold medallist in that field and also a silver medallist in Shot Put. Last year he took part in the Foskor half marathon in Phalaborwa.
Namakgale Police Station Commander, Colonel M Ngobeni, says that whenever Mr Mathye is on duty, she knows things are done efficiently and to her satisfaction as Station Commander. Away from excelling at his daily duties, Mr Mathye is looking forward to make an indelible mark in athletics while inspiring others to take a leaf out of his book to pen their own inspirational stories despite whatever challenges life may throw at them.
