Tender corruption to blame for unfinished work?
GAUTENG – The cholera outbreak that is hitting Hammanskraal, which has already claimed 15 lives, could have been minimised if the tender that was to upgrade the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Plant was awarded to a suitable firm in the first place. Instead, the tender was awarded to a corruption accused ANC benefactor whose consortium got paid nearly R300 million, the contract’s full value, after completing half the work only. Five Tshwane metro employees are also facing a disciplinary hearing for awarding the tender in 2019 to the firm.
