Cholera death toll rises to fifteen (15) in Hammanskraal
HAMMANSKRAAL – The cholera death toll in Hammanskraal has risen to 15, with many more admitted to hospital with the disease contracted in the area. The City of Tshwane said that response teams were sent to test the water, and water tankers were dispatched to the area. Tests that were conducted by the City of Tshwane on various water sources in the Themba supply areas in other words Hammanskraal is supplied by Rand Water by Morotele in Tshwane.
They conducted the tests and the results came back negative for cholera and E.coli so at this present moment, initially it would seem that the Thembe from the Tshwane supply does not contain E.coli. Although the city released a health warning telling residents not to drink tap water on Sunday, the South African Human Rights Commission said the water was unsafe in 2019. Residents have thus been critical of the government’s intervention only after people died.
