North West dam levels remains stable

NORTH WEST – A weekly status of reservoirs issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation early this week has shown that the provincial water average in North West increased to 90.4% this week, from 89.7% last week. This is as the province is fast approaching the dry winter season which could see dam levels plummeting drastically. However, there are some dams that are slowly declining namely, Ngotwane from 59.4% to 58.9%; Madikwe from 64.9% to 64.4%; Boskop from 103.5% to 102.5% and Taung from 99.0% to 98.7%

Those dams that continue to record an increase are Bospoort from 102.2% to 102.9%; Klipvoor from 101.1% to 101.9%, Buffelspoort from 100.8% to 100.9%; Setumo from 97.9% to 98.7 %;Vaalkop from 87.0% to 89.8%, Roodekopjes from 103.1% to 106.1% and Hartbeespoort from 99.3% to 99.6%;Lindsleypoort from 99.0 % to 99.8%; Marico Bosveld from 100.0% to 100.2% and Olifantsnek from 100.4% to 101.3%. The following dams remains unchanged from last week; Koster from 100.4% to 100.4% and Molatedi from 66.1% to 66.1%.

The Department of Water and Sanitation appeals to all water users to use water sparingly as South Africa remains a water scarce country, therefore the available water need to be conserved. Ms Wisane Mavasa, the Spokesperson for the Department has indicated that South Africa is a water scarce country and that we should protect the little water resource we are left with.
