Gardening underway, but what about streetlight repairs?
BRITS – The Madibeng Municipality was spotted busy with gardening in the busy park behind the Municipal offices in Brits CBD. Small trees and shrubs were planted to uplift the image of the park known for being a hotspot of drug use and dealings at night. Residents nearby the park voiced their concerns of the attention given to the park to make it look better, but not the streetlights in the area that is not working at all after newly installed LED headlamps was fitted last year.
A community member was quick to point out when approached for their thoughts – “I see this as money wasted in a way the park will look better but, creating bushes for criminals to hide in at night while the streets are covered in darkness with non-existent streetlights that could’ve been repaired is much more beneficial”. It is uncertain if the plants that were planted will grow to maturity in the future, and if it won’t be stolen by thieves who later sell the plants off to the public at other locations in and around town.
