Oscar Pistorius parole hearing today
GAUTENG – The former Paralympian star, who shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013, is expected to appear before the parole board on today. Oscar Pistorius will make his bid for freedom before the parole board at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Tshwane. The hearing will decide whether Pistorius is eligible for release on parole after serving half of his 15-year sentence.
The disgraced athlete was convicted of murder after he shot and killed Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013. Pistorius admitted to shooting Steenkamp through a toilet door, but told the court it was a case of mistaken identity. Pistorius claimed he thought she was an intruder.
UPDATE: The parole board ordered Pistorius should remain behind bars after it found he had yet to spend the minimum required time behind bars to qualify for parole.
