Failed suicide attempt leaves Hartbeespoort woman in critical condition
HARTBEESPOORT – Emergency services were called Wednesday afternoon around 12:30 to assist a 21-year-old woman who jumped off the southern side of the Hartbeespoort dam wall and sustained serious neck injuries and lacerations to her face and head.
Working with SRU (Strategic Response Rescue Unit) and NSRI, a rescue was initiated. The sluices was closed to help Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Service and Station 21 Fire and Rescue secure the woman to a stretcher and move along safety lines and ropes to the wall.
The patient was safely brought to the top and was transported to a hospital in Brits for further treatment. Thank you to all services on scene for the swift response to rescue the injured woman.
