BREAKING NEWS: …and you thought it couldn’t get any worse?

BRITS – Two years have passed since The Independent Co first reported of the massive potholes plaguing Krokkodildrift lane in Brits Industrial area, next to the R511. Company owners and motorists voiced there frustration of the lack of proper service delivery, especially From the Madibeng Municipality, Department of Transport, Department of Public Works and Roads – NW and Department of Water and Sanitation South Africa
In March 2022, it was reported that the water in the street was caused by a sewage block hidden in the dense uncut grass near the road, flowing over the road and into a nearby canal. The speed at which the problem needed to be solved by the relevant parties made a bigger impact on the quality of the road over time as massive potholes formed.
In April 2022, it was reported that due to heavy rains the area received, the storm drains was blocked and the water could not flow away from the road surface causing more potholes to form. The Municipality then dug a ditch next to the blocked storm drain to direct the water flow away from the road, which didn’t help solve the problem.
Fast forward to March 2023 and still no permanent plan was made to solve the problem. The ditch that was dug over time vanished due to the rains the area received and a river usually forms now in Krokkodildrift lane due to the fact the water have no outflow source.
Investigations to the area now saw that only roadblocks was erected in the area to direct traffic to use alternative routes making delivery and traveling on the road a complete burden. Road users moved some of the roadblocks to traverse the pothole invested road to get to their destinations quicker.
Another problem that reared it’s head, is up in Krokkodildrift lane, another blocked sewage drain was discovered pouring raw sewage down the street a couple of hundred meters to the massive potholes, filling them with sewage in the process. The community calls on the Madibeng Municipality to adhere to service delivery promises and make a permanent solution to the years of ongoing struggles motorists face.
