BREAKING NEWS: Madibeng Mayor Cllr Douglas Maimane leads “Operation Patela” – campaign in Letlhabile

LETLHABILE – Executive Mayor of Madibeng Local Municipality, Cllr. Douglas Maimane led a team comprising of Single Whip of Council, Cllr. Elsie Kgautle, MMCs, Ward Councillors and officials of the Municipality to carry out the Operation Patela campaign focussing on businesses in Letlhabile.

Majority of businesses were found to have tampered with electricity connections thus not making any electricity purchases while others were found to be in arrears with payments. Others were found to be in contravention of land use management.

In cases where the electricity connections were tampered with, the Municipality removed the critical infrastructure for the individual sites until the affected consumer pays a fine and settles the outstanding amounts. The electricity supply was cut off for those business whose accounts were in arrears. The Executive Mayor expressed his dismay at the level of lawlessness regarding theft of electricity.

“We cannot allow this kind of conduct to continue in Madibeng hence our intervention with an initiative like Operation Patela. It is illegal activities like these that prevents us from providing quality and uninterrupted services to the people. We are determined to put a stop to such the unfortunate activities like theft of electricity and the culture of non-payment. We want to assure our people that we are committed to the course of turning the situation around in Madibeng and make this municipality a place of choice where service delivery is the order of the day and ultimately be in a position to can attract the much needed investments.”
