45-year-old Vape addict coughs blood, hospitalized

GAUTENG – Dustin Fitzgerald, 45, was hospitalized recently when he began coughing up pints of blood. The cough had been bad for a while before then, often to the point of disturbing his sleep. He eventually saw a physician once he was coughing up blood. Doctors, who first diagnosed him with bronchitis, told him he had bacterial pneumonia caused by his vaping. Like many, he believed that e-cigarettes were a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, which send toxic carcinogens into the body when smoked.
