Madibeng Mayor – Cllr Douglas Maime meets with the communities of Ward 10 and 41

KGABALATSANE – As communicated during the week, the Executive Mayor of Madibeng Local Municipality, Cllr Douglas Maimane met with the communities of Ward 10 and Ward 41 in a Mayoral Imbizo event held in Kgabalatsane on Saturday, 25 February 2023. The purpose of the Imbizo was mainly to ascertain first hand what the grievances and urgent service delivery needs of the two communities were.
Since coming into office, the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Maimane has determined to hold the Izimbizo in all the clusters of Madibeng to have a clearer sense of the needs of the people on the ground.
A seemingly frustrated yet passionate community brought before the Executive Mayor its grievances around water shortages in Kgabalatsane, the outstanding electrification process of Kagisanong View, allocation of RDP houses, crime in Hebron and dire state of roads among others.
The Executive Mayor who was accompanied Speaker of Council, Cllr. Ditshego Mbezi, Members of Mayoral Committee (MMCs) and Ward Councillors, thanked the two communities for their frankness in expressing their exasperation with the Municipality and committed to not only attending to the issues which can be immediately addressed, but also return to deal with specific issues that require urgent attention.
“Each and every matter raised here is very important and shall receive the necessary attention. There are indeed pressing matters that shall be attended immediately like the matter of Kagisong wherein we will organize a meeting with relevant stakeholders that include Bakwena ba Mogopa and Eskom in the coming week . We need to mend relations with our people and respond to their needs in an effective manner as we are obliged by the law to do so.
In the same breath we need to remind our people that the finances municipal finances are not in a good state hence we have revenue enhancement initiatives like the Operation Patela. In areas such as Kgabalatsane and Hebron we will re-introduce the flat rate system in order for the municipality to get revenue for water services which we buy from City of Tshwane(Rand Water). Councillors and relevant MMCs will address other equally important issues raised today such as RDP houses allocations, Youth Development programmes, crime, cemeteries and issues of local economic development, said the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Douglas Maimane.
