Hartbeespoort roadblock operations commenced in full force

HARTBEESPOORT – Two roadblocks were set up in Hartbeespoort along Beethoven Road and Scott Street in a joint operation by the Madibeng Traffic Unit, South African Police Service (SAPS Madibeng Cluster), Provincial Traffic and Home Affairs on Friday.
The purpose of the roadblocks is to promote road safety by checking the roadworthiness of vehicles and arresting those with fake driver’s licences. SAPS, led by Colonel Sifike and Colonel Nkabinde, was present to assist with stolen goods and vehicles, as well as searches and arrests where necessary. Home Affairs assisted with the verification of foreign documentation.
Superintendent Mankga, who is the Operational Commander of Madibeng Traffic, headed the operation. He noted that, “The operation went well. The drivers were cooperative, and 79 summons were issued for traffic violations worth a monetary value of R51 000.”
More roadblocks are planned for Hartbeespoort and the greater Madibeng in order to deter criminals and to curb lawlessness, particularly, the theft and hijacking of vehicles. The Madibeng Traffic Unit, in collaboration with its stakeholders, intends to make Madibeng a zero tolerance zone.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Roads and Safety, Cllr Motepe commended the work done by the Madibeng Traffic Unit in collaboration with SAPS and Home Affairs. He said, “I want to thank you. It is encouraging to see the relationship and collaboration of our frontline troopers who are ensuring the safety of our communities.”
