The goldfish memory

Our past like it or not, has a massive effect on how we perceive our own lives today and plan ahead for the future. Many people in our society today live life mentally stuck in the past in some way or another. Due to tragic life events, bad relationships and choices that was made during any given time where your own life was derailed and you were ejected from the comfort zone you were used to. It can be seen in the way people talk about past events, how frequently it comes up in conversations or how normal everyday life situations are handled according to a past event (good or bad).

The power the past has over you is only as much as you allow it to have. There is a common myth that a goldfish has a three second memory. What a bliss to forget your troubles so easily and carry on with new experiences continuously throughout your life and never be reminded of any troubled events to hold you back. It could be a productive way of a peaceful life, if you can put your mind-set in a three point working order: Live for now, plan for tomorrow and forget yesterday. Live life for the now, be present with your personal goals, work, relationships and self-care. Move on from toxic people with no life goals, negativity is infectious. Plan what you want to achieve and strive to become the best possible version of yourself. Every dream you have can be accomplished through hard work and determination. If you want it, the struggle will be worth it.

Lastly, forget about the past your holding on to. Many people in our society holds on to a type of past that they judge themselves or others on. Visualize your own or anyone else’s past as a hot coal on the ground. If you pick it up, it only burns your hand until you make the conscience decision to know that the pain you feel can be controlled by letting go of the burning coal. Your past is the same, not letting go only hurts you and those around you involved.
