Living at peace
The Bible calls us to live in peace and unity. In today’s world, it can be very hard to live in peace. All around us are people with different opinions constantly arguing for their voices to be heard without listening to anyone else. It can appear that some people create drama and problems for others. How can we be at peace with such people?
“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” – Romans 12:18. This commands us to “live at peace with” not just with our family, friends or favourite people but everyone. Although choosing to live peacefully can be a struggle, God gives us strength, helping us overcome temptations and live for Him.
Sometimes it may seem that no matter what we do to live at peace with others, they still initiate problems and conflict. We cannot control the actions of others. All we can do is try our best to live at peace with others and do our part to restore relationships peacefully. Making peace is often intimidating, especially when we are in the wrong or have hurt someone. However, it is important to seek to mend the broken aspects of the relationship so that we do not live in anger or spite but move on peaceably with our lives. Forgiveness and repentance can contribute powerfully to this process.
Being a peacemaker also means not encouraging friction between other people. Gossip and drama are common sources of damage to trust and peace. Not being involved in such activities shows peace and love towards those involved and can protect us from actions that are less than pure. It is not always easy to live peacefully and treat others with love, but it is an important mission. We can show love and give the world a glimpse of Jesus through our actions.
