SOUTH AFRICA – Many motorists have markers wondered what the blue and white boards are that is positioned 200m apart on all national roads. The number and letters on the road markers is a way of letting emergency services know your exact location. N3      – The road/route you are traveling

9         – Indicates the section of route on which you are traveling

74.6   – The kilometre position on the route section

N        – This indicates the direction in which you are traveling
