BREAKING NEWS: Sonop cemetery turning into an illegal dumpsite

SONOP – The Sonop cemetery like many others in Madibeng is also neglected to such an extent that it is almost impossible to pay respects to your loved ones. Over grown grass covering the tombstones is a common sight. The building, gate and fence apart from the graves has been vandalised or stolen by criminals.

Residents in the area also reported illegal dumping next to the cemetery. It is alleged that a company in the area was tasked to fill a hole near the cemetery but in return has used the place as a illegal dump site for offcuts of granite blocks.

Frustrated community members calls on the relative authorities responsible to rectify the growing concern and take action to restore dignity to the deceased and the nearby residents. Complaints was launched by residents because their homes are allegedly being contaminated by the white dust from the illegal dumping.
