Man accused of assaulting teen outside food outlet in danger if released on bail

MPUMALANGA – Corrie Pretorius (50), who allegedly violently assaulted a 16-year-old and pointed a firearm at him following an argument at a food outlet in Limpopo, has applied for bail. The investigating officer says Corrie Pretorius (50) was moved from the Groblersdal police cells to a prison in Emalahleni in Mpumalanga for his own safety.

Pretorius says he fears that he might be killed in prison if he is not released on bail. “I am deeply traumatised by what transpired and I am constantly faced with the threat of a life-ending attack in prison.” Pretorius said.

The state has opposed the bail application, arguing that Pretorius’ life would be in danger if he were released from custody. It claimed that Pretorius’ release would likely disturb public order and peace, given the outcry over the incident. His family has since been placed on safe place following threats from angry community members.
